RESCUEing old primary school of Poros

Due to the lack of a minimum number of students in the village of Poros, the primary school had to close and has stayed closed for years.  Following the request of the village council to exploit this building for the benefit of the local community, a decision was taken by the Municipality of Lefkas and the Greek Ministry of Education to dispose the old school to the village cultural association.

Since 2018 the old primary school of Poros in the region of Lefkas has been the location of the village’s cultural association. Since 2018 and until 2021, the old school has remained an abandoned place.

In 2022, the village council requested cooperation of Solidarity Tracks to develop the old school and create a local folklore museum, space for the association’s activities, place for national and international volunteers, and an outdoor space for the organization of various cultural and artistic events.

Up to now, the building has been furnished and decorated in a personalized way. Together with members of the local cultural association, members and volunteers of Solidarity Tracks are working on the design of the interior space and the venue for cultural events. The President of the village council is mobilizing citizens to collect old objects, especially traditional knives that characterize this village, to furnish the local folk museum
