The European Voluntary Service (EVS) is an opportunity for young people between 18 -30 years old to participate in over 30 European countries, to realize a project as a volunteer in a non-profit organization. During the voluntary service, young people learn on different levels (communication, autonomy, citizenship, culture …). At the end of their European voluntary service, young people receive a certificate called “Youth pass”. This certificate confirms the participation of volunteers and describes their service. It is also a certificate that describes what the volunteers learned through their project with reference to key skills.

Although the administrative process of implementation of volunteer projects is the same, the routes followed by partner organizations (Sending Organization, hosting organization, coordinating organization) on the stage of preparation of voluntary until the final assessment of its project are different in terms of quality.

In order to improve the quality of volunteer projects and to provide more value to the Youth Pass, we organized a training course involving 24 youth workers and youth leaders from 12 European organizations active in the European Voluntary Service (responsible for EVS projects mentors, EVS project coordinators, trainers, and ex-volunteers) for 8 days in Lefkas. During this seminar we tried to develop a common strategy in order to facilitate the preparation of the volunteer and the implementation of its project, including the realization of its tasks, self-assessment of the volunteer, to be awareness of the evolution of his project. The strategy that we developed will permit us in the future to ensure the follow up and the support of the volunteer and optimization of the results of his project. During the seminar we created a volunteer’s log book, in order to improve the quality of his learning during his European voluntary Service. Our main aim was to help him, to follow, to evaluate and to keep track of his project.

This log book will facilitate also the monitoring and achievement of each EVS project and helps to ensure the best quality of EVS project and enhance the value of Youth pass.
