Romas reality: Invitation, Program

Short description:
Solidarity Tracks” invited 30 young Roma and non Roma, young dumb-deaf people and young people with sight problems, by youth organizations from 6 European countries (namely Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy and Romania) for 8 days, in Lefkada. During this meeting, the young people exchanged information about each country’s situation in relation to the position of Roma and the discriminations against this social group. They have together created advertising spots to get people aware of such discrimination and rise/struggle in favor of the education of Roma people about their rights in order to help them integrate into the broader society and to blot out any inequality and discrimination imposed by citizens and especially young people that will make up the European society of tomorrow.

For making the advertising spots, our young people made use of the technique “stop motion», a technique of animation, which allows them to create motion pictures based on real pictures and objects and to show, picture by picture, that the objects or figures get to move. At the end of the exchange, the young people presented and discussed the spots with the public in the neighborhood of Roma and the “Paralia” (or waterfront avenue) of Lefkada city.

During the exchange, our young people organized animation workshops for the children of Roma and created postcards to support the education of Roma children in the future. They also created a digital “Guide” that explains the functions of the technique “stop motion”, the steps of production of a promotional spot and ways to use this technique for the sake of the promotion of humanitarian values and aiding social conclusion.
