The coastal areas of Lefkas constitute a valuable environmental asset that requires continuous care and protection. To support sustainable practices and responsible attitudes among residents and visitors, this volunteering initiative will be implemented within the framework of the European Solidarity Corps program, bringing together 20 young volunteers .
The project will take place from 7th of May till 7th of June 2026 (including travel days). During this period, participants will engage in activities serving the public good, such as shoreline clean-ups and awareness actions focused on environmental responsibility. These efforts will strengthen youth involvement
and contribute positively to the local community.
Volunteers will collaborate in an international and local setting, gaining practical experience in environmental action, teamwork, and intercultural cooperation. They will also contribute to the enhancement of shared public spaces through creative and sustainable interventions, including recycling-based constructions and artistic initiatives.
Developed Developed in cooperation with local stakeholders, the project will encourage the participation of young people with fewer opportunities, promoting inclusion and equal access. At the same time, it will support the preservation of Lefkas’ Blue Flag status across several beaches, reinforcing the island’s appeal while leaving a meaningful and lasting benefit for both the community and the natural enviroment.
Aims of the project
The project Clean, Create & Educate (CC&E) is a European Solidarity Corps team volunteering initiative designed to address environmental challenges in coastal areas through active participation, creativity, and education. Marine pollution, especially plastic waste, represents one of the most critical environmental issues affecting Mediterranean ecosystems. Coastal regions such as Lefkada, which attract large numbers of visitors every year, face increasing pressure due to tourism-related waste. CC&E responds to this challenge by combining environmental action with learning and community engagement, empowering young people to become active contributors to environmental protection. The project is based on the principles of solidarity, sustainability, participation, and intercultural learning, offering young volunteers the opportunity to live and work together while making a tangible impact on the local environment.
