Simplified Youth partnership project

SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
We noticed that the construction sector in French Guiana represents a major economic challenge in an area where structural resources and housing are in short supply. However, French Guiana’s geographical location offers a unique opportunity to get young people involved in ecological projects. With this in mind, our project focuses on the construction sector, which is rich in innovation and job creation, to stimulate young people’s capacity for innovation. Our aim is to encourage the use of local bio-sourced materials. This approach reduces the cost of buildings while improving their energy efficiency.
In this way, our project is in line with sustainable development by promoting environmentally- friendly construction practices. Sustainable tourism has clearly been identified as a national priority in French Guiana, as demonstrated by the government’s “Destination France” plan. French Guiana has an exceptional environment that lends itself perfectly to the development of tourism that respects the ecosystem. The emergence of such practices offers opportunities to create jobs and preserve the environment for young people in the region.
Besides, promoting traditional customs and lifestyles is also a major challenge for sustainable development in French Guiana. The Amerindian and Noir Marron communities have developed sustainable lifestyles in harmony with their environment. Our project aims to support these communities in preserving their traditions while meeting their basic needs in terms of food, housing, education and health.
Young people in the partner communities, particularly those from rural areas, share common needs such as access to learning opportunities, professional integration and skills development.
Unfortunately, many young Guyanese are neither qualified nor employed. Our project aims to fill
these gaps by providing quality education and training in eco-construction, renewable energy and eco-tourism, and to open up horizons for these young people to stabilize them by developing key skills and taking sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives in their villages.
Eco-tourism is an ideal solution, offering innovative, sustainable, ethical, fair and participatory services. Non-formal education is a pillar of our partner organizations, offering opportunities for lifelong learning. It adapts to the values of sustainable development by promoting the acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities to support and multiply eco-construction and eco-tourism initiatives.
I. AIMS OF THE PROJECT
- To develop the skills and know-how of a group of youth workers and young leaders in terms of mentoring, and to build their capacity to design and implement eco-construction, renewable energy and eco-tourism activities for young people in rural areas, based on non-formal education methods.
- To create a set of interactive educational tools for young people from rural areas to raise their awareness of the values of eco-construction, green energy and eco-tourism, and to inspire and motivate them to take civic or entrepreneurial initiatives to help their communities in these areas.
- To create synergies, exchange practices and experiences between youth workers/educators and young leaders in the consortium, and develop an environment conducive to the implementation of public policies in favor of youth initiatives in rural areas.
- Develop a joint medium- and long-term cooperation strategy with our European and local partners to get young people in rural areas, including those with fewer opportunities, more involved in developing eco-construction, green energy and eco-tourism practices in their region and elsewhere.
